Candice’s “Why”

As a child, Candice had a phenomenal teacher, Ms. Marla Gibbs, who taught her that most Black history is not written in books.  Ms. Gibbs taught Candice to question everything, especially systemic oppression. This life lesson inspired her to seek opportunities to uplift, educate, and advocate for people of color. As a result, she is committed to supporting small businesses owned by people of color. Building generational wealth through entrepreneurship is one crucial way to fight system oppression.

Candice’s Journey

Before joining Leading Educators, Candice worked with college students as she created and executed programs to retain students of color as the Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs at McHenry County College.

Candice holds a M.S. in Student Affairs/College Student Personnel Administration from Illinois State University and a B.A. in Business Administration from Grand Valley State University.
